Also in October 2015, Jane Doe 17 said she was tagged in an Instagram post advertising the pornographic video she had filmed after responding to a Craigslist ad, which she thought no one would ever see. The post on the Girls Do Porn account included a photo of her on a hotel bed captioned “Coming soon.” The next day, she filed a report at the San Diego Police Department. She felt as though she hadn’t truly consented to being filmed because she was deceived about where the video would be released.

Defendants used fraud and coercion to get women to appear in porn, judge rules.

The FBI indicted Girls Do Porn for federal counts of sex trafficking in October 2019, and in January 2020, a state judge awarded more than $12.7 million to 22 women who brought a civil case against Girls Do Porn, finding the production company guilty of fraud and coercion. The man performing in the videos, Andre Garcia, pled guilty to the federal trafficking charges against him in December, and Girls Do Porn owner Michael Pratt is on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Even after Wolfe became aware of this, he and others continued to assure prospective models that no one would ever find out about their video shoot or learn their identity. Magistrate Judge Jill L. Before some of the video shoots, victims were offered alcohol or marijuana. Victims who consumed alcohol or smoked marijuana were directed to make a recorded statement saying that they were not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol, even though they had just smoked marijuana or drank alcohol. She claimed she tried to report how she was sex trafficked and raped to MindGeek, where the video was being distributed, but said she was ignored due to their focus on making “millions of dollars” off the content, the lawsuit reads. In 2016, when the class action lawsuit was filed against Girls Do Porn, Pratt allegedly instructed Moser to delete all of the messages and complaints from the models as well as shred all of the receipts and expenses that she had kept up with. Several models then started sending complaints to Moser about the videos that were allegedly uploaded directly online and often racked up hundreds of thousands of views. In August, the first of 22 women testified in San Diego Superior Court against the popular adult video service, which is owned by Michael Pratt, as part of a lawsuit against the company.

Garcia admitted that the sex was rough and caused many victims pain, and, in some cases bleeding. When victims asked to stop filming, Garcia and other co-conspirators told the victims that they had to keep going and finish the videos. In actuality, the co-conspirators were posting the videos on GirlsDoPorn, GirlsDoToys, and PornHub, one of the world’s most heavily-trafficked porn sites. The judge also granted the women’s request for ownership rights to their images that appeared on videos produced by the defendants and posted on several adult websites. An adult-film actor tied to a San Diego company that authorities said duped and coerced women into making pornography was sentenced in federal court Monday to 20 years in prison.

At that time, Pornhub was one of the most popular websites in the world, attracting billions of visits each month. A day later, Williams messaged the 13-year-old on Facebook and shared a video of himself raping her friend, according to the complaint. The girl’s parents are suing Uber on multiple claims, including negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and trafficking, the lawsuit shows. Out of fear, the 13-year-old girl told the driver “they were younger than their actual ages in an attempt to get him to cancel the ride and refuse to drive them,” the complaint says.

Jane Doe 7 ended up filming a porn video under duress in a hotel room where furniture blocked the door, preventing her from leaving. Some of the women testified that although they agreed to perform sex on camera to earn money, including paying for college, the subsequent publicity ruined their lives and careers. And once the images hit the internet, many of the women were threatened, harassed and faced other serious repercussions.

The 37-year-old San Diego resident pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of conspiracy to commit stalking on the same day prosecutors filed the charge. As part of his plea, in which he admitted to filming about 100 videos for the GirlsDoPorn site and related sites, he also admitted that he was hired to make the harassment video by GirlsDoPorn’s founder, Michael James Pratt, and the site’s operator, Matthew Isaac Wolfe. Attorney’s Office and the civil lawsuit both alleged that young women who applied online for modeling jobs as far back as 2015 were initially deceived about the true nature of the work — to appear in porn videos. Most were told the video production would take around 30 minutes, when in reality, they typically lasted for several hours.

After the San Diego Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the 22 women who sued GirlsDoPorn, Domi Publications was one of the entities on the hook for paying the judgment. The charges against Pratt’s co-defendants in the initial indictment have all ended in guilty pleas. GirlsDoPorn was also sued locally by 22 women, who were awarded nearly $13 million by a San Diego Superior Court judge at the conclusion of a trial.
